The Boya BY-BM3032 Supercardioid Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone is a lightweight, compact condenser microphone designed to deliver improved sound quality for YouTube clips, interviews, vlogs, and other video applications with DSLR and mirrorless cameras.
The mic is constructed from ABS plastic and features an integrated shockmount to absorb noise-causing vibrations. The shockmount attaches directly to your camera’s shoe mount and also features a 1/4-20 thread on the bottom to accommodate tripods and other mounting options. Two AA batteries power the mic for up to 30 hours.
The BY-BM3032 features a supercardioid polar pattern that focuses audio capture tightly in front of the microphone, picking up substantially less background sound than the omnidirectional mic built into the camera. The mic offers three gain settings (-10, 0, and +20 dB) so you can set the proper level for your camera model without overloading the input or sending too little signal and getting a lot of camera hiss. You also have the option to record the right channel at a -10 dB lower volume as a safety—in case the level in the main track clips.
The high-pass filter with two frequency settings allows you to filter out unwanted bottom end from air conditioning units and other low-frequency disruptors. Conversely, the +5 dB high-frequency boost option brightens the sound to compensate for upper frequencies lost when shooting outside with the supplied furry windscreen. A foam windscreen is also included for indoor recording. The BY-BM3032 has an attached 3.5mm TRS cable to connect to cameras, camcorders, and audio recorders.
